Typical range in an ICE boat today is 200 – 400 nautical miles. Have you ever ventured that far in one leg in a boat? A typical boat trip for professional and leisure boat users is between 20 minutes to 2 hours. The readouts from service centers tell us that quite often half or more of that time is at slow speed, so the typical distance travelled is 10 to 20 nautical miles. In Norway, this applies to about 70 % of the trips completed (Båtlivsundersøkelsen 2018).
The range in an Evoy powered fast boat, where the weight of the ICE system is replaced by our electric engine and batteries, typically achieve between 25 to 35 nautical miles of range in 25 knots. If you reduce to 4 – 5 knots the range approximatly quadruples. That gives a range of over 100 nautical miles. So if you start to get worried about making it home you can just reduce speed.
Try our Configurator – F2E – on the boat you own, or on the boat you want to own, and see what typical range you can expect, how much you can reduce your carbon footprint and how long time it takes to «earn back» the difference to a typical new ICE installation.
