Evoy screen shows different battery values for a more connected boating experience
As electric propulsion gains momentum across commercial and recreational marine segments, a common concern still surfaces: charging time and infrastructure. With range anxiety still a barrier for some operators, having access to faster, more accessible charging is key to unlocking widespread adoption.
Direct Current (DC) charging is a method of delivering electricity directly to a boat’s battery at high speed, bypassing the slower onboard Alternating Current (AC) conversion process.
Compared to traditional AC charging, DC enables:
This means less downtime at the dock and more time on the water.
Evoy is one of the few marine electric propulsion providers offering DC fast charging as a standard-compatible feature across our systems.
Each Evoy system includes a 6.6 kW onboard AC charger (or 22 kW with the Storm and Hurricane) by default with the option to upgrade to 22 kW onboard charger even on the Breeze 120+ hp. There is also the option to add on fully compatible external DC.
Whether operating inboards or outboards, these systems are modular and scalable—ideal for everything from workboats and tenders to high-performance leisure crafts.
Tourism operator Bonseye runs three Evoy-powered HyFoil boats in Norway’s protected Geirangerfjord. With each boat running up to nine tours per day, minimizing charging time is essential.
By investing in a DC charging setup—including a Kempower trolley and 40 kW of power—Bonseye can rotate boats seamlessly between charging and operation. The result? Efficient, uninterrupted electric boating with zero fuel use and reduced operational stress.
“With diesel, I’d be up early checking filters and fluids,” says founder Frank Bonsaksen. “Now I just plug in the boat, boil a coffee, check the Evoy app—and I’m ready to go.”
Frank Bonasaksen is very proud to have welcomed over 4000 electric tourist passangers in 2024
Evoy’s sister company Aqua superPower, is the world’s first global marine fast-charging networks. With an expanding footprint that spans both Europe and the U.S. and active installations in key boating regions across:
Aqua enables and facilitates the transition to electric boating by working with marinas and ports to implement charging infrastructure across a variety of operational models, and by making charging easy for boat owners through its compatibility model.
Fast charging is only part of the equation—knowing how and when to charge is just as important.
The Evoy App is built to make charging smarter with:
Whether managing a single boat or a fleet, this allows total control from the app.
DC fast charging is no longer a nice-to-have—it’s becoming essential for serious electric boat operators. Whether it’s a tourism company like Bonseye powering through nine trips a day, or a fleet manager looking to cut turnaround times, high-speed charging helps electric boating compete with combustion. Combined with the Evoy App for smart charging insights and a growing infrastructure from Aqua superPower, the barriers to adoption are falling fast.
Electric boating is getting easier, faster, and more accessible—and Evoy is proud to be helping lead that charge.
